    Who`s - eboat is this ?

    Hi gents bought a small lot of photos taken by a british sailor showing captured german u boats plus this image of an e-boat can any one identify it from the logo on the side please ? I thought it was an Ape / baboon but wife says Lion ........

      well known S-Boot of the 4. Schnellboot Flottille. the emblem is a black panther actually.....this is S 204. Lang. on the back of the Boot is a black TA under a comet emblem

        HI many thanks friend for your reply , but sir with respect ? a black panther? surely that animal is sleeker an thinner lower to the ground ?

          E-boot

          Perspective is the culprit. Make a large circle on a piece of paper and put it on the wall. Stand 3 to 5 metres away. Look at the circle when you are perpendicular to the wall ,then move a couple of metres so you can look at the circle from a 45 degree angle. The circle will look more oval (vertical) and squished. The smaller the angle you view the circle from, the more oval it will appear. That's why the slender panther looks chubby as its length appears reduced. It's one of the tricks that artists need to learn.

            Like Steven has said, it's all a matter of perspective. The Panther emblem has a large head with an open mouth, which gives it an out of proportion and less than sleek appearance, especially when viewed from an angle.
